The Marlena Bag

My second bag was made for my friend Marlena!  That is why I call it the "Marlena Bag".  She took it on her latest wild adventure - she moved to Australia!  She took this pic in front of the Opera that I want to work in someday as a seamstress in the Costume shop.  What a dream!

Before I moved from the U.S., my friend Amy made me this bag. She even embroidered my name on the strap. I met Amy working the costume shop at Appalachian State. She's can sew anything and has worked at the opera in Santa Fe. I thought she would enjoy seeing the bag she made for me on its way to the Sydney Opera House. I wear this bag nearly every day.

Enjoy the bag Marlena!  Thanks for the kind words!

Review and Giveaway: Whip Up Mini Quilts

OK so I am new at the blogging thing.  But I am full of ideas to share and try.  So if you all will buckle up and get ready for the ride, maybe there will be some food for thought.

So my first thought is to write some more about TIM GUNN.  And I will, when I get to my pics!

Today though I am obsessed with this book and this give away.

For those that know me, I love my class room and I love my job.  It is such a great place and I love spending time making this my home away from home, my dream studio and my exquisite stitchy teaching place.  All year I have been trying to make my signage more "stitchy" (love that word) for my students.  I want them to know that this is a place for creativity and work and laughter.  I want this to be an inspiring place created by past students to inspire current and future students.  (I have even tried to get the artists in my life to create stitchy themed paintings - but that is another story for another time...)

So I have been rolling around making some Art Quilts to help teach the Design Elements and Principals.  I have been reading up on the subject since Jan and I have been simply doodling and stitching.  But since reading Crafy Pod's Sister Diane, I hope she hears my plea and graces me with a copy of this book:

Review and Giveaway: Whip Up Mini Quilts

Hopefully she will hear my un-muted plea for the plight of the cash poor teacher (I should be ashamed of myself for being so brash).  I know this book would inspire and enable me to save the world with crafting.

So as soon as I figure out how to post a link directly to her, so you folks can check out her crafty shenanigans, I will.

Ummm Peter, if your reading this, do you want to eat din din with me tonight?  I will come your way if you want and ummm how do I set up a link to the Crafty Pod?

Thanks for reading my tom foolery.

Hello you crafty folk! This weekend I had the chance to meet the nicest, most gracious fashionable man of all. Tim Gunn. It was quite an event! The whole process began weeks ago when the fashion show at Southpark was announced featuring his appearance. I scrambled to get a ticket only to get the number for the PR firm in ATL. I was able to get a seat for myself and two more for students.

Meanwhile, back at school, the essay contest was cooking away. The winners being two young ladies very passionate about fashion and why meeting Tim Gunn would be thrilling.

Friday night before was sleepless as I finished loose ends on my ensemble (stitched by my Apparel 2 students!), prepared our small gift of a letter, the winning essays and a high school polo while listening as my husband prepared for a arts and craft show. Yes two of this year's biggest events happening on the same day.

Husband was off, I napped for a couple of hours. The 11am (OK more like 1120) lunch with the girls at the Cheesecake Factory was perfect. Both students were dressed immaculately as well as polite and great at conversation. We talked about high school, college and summer plans.  One of the girls is off to NCSU in the fall as a student in the textiles program.  The younger of the two is looking forward to beach trips, volley ball camp and her senior year.

After the Cheesecake factory awarded us with complimentary meals, we walked the stretch to our 12:30 seats...

Hello all you DIVALICIOUS people!  Welcome to my new and awesome blog.  Along with my trusty PETER - we want to conquer the craft world.  Ok maybe not really conquer but have fun, blog, learn some new and crafty stuff and be a part of the world of 2010.

So the first official Diva event is a craft show in Oak Ridge NC.  But I won't be there.  My husband is taking some of my bags to peddle beside his awesome crazy paintings.

Guess where I will be?  I will be meeting two great students and meeting TIM GUNN.  That's right I am going to a local mall, watching a fashion show and waiting for my photo opp!

I will post more from my big first Crafty Diva double special day!
